As many of you know, DNS for FB services has been affected and this is likely a symptom of the actual issue, and that's that BGP peering with Facebook peering routers has gone down, very likely due to a configuration change that went into effect shortly before the outages happened (started roughly 1540 UTC).
There are people now trying to gain access to the peering routers to implement fixes, but the people with physical access is separate from the people with knowledge of how to actually authenticate to the systems and people who know what to actually do, so there is now a logistical challenge with getting all that knowledge unified.
Part of this is also due to lower staffing in data centers due to pandemic measures.

No discussion that I'm aware of yet that is considering a threat/attack vector.
I believe the original change was 'automatic' (as in configuration done via a web interface). However, now that connection to the outside world is down, remote access to those tools don't exist anymore, so the emergency procedure is to gain physical access to the peering routers and do all the configuration locally.

iTomB to mi povídej. Já přešel na apku SMS od Google kde se s tím dá něco aspoň dělat a nějak to funguje.

hapi oni maji nekde blokaci kdyz jsi na mobilnich datech. Nekdy to muzes odeslat, nekdy ne (asi blokace nekde po ceste, jinak si to nedovedu vysvetlit). Technici me vzdy odpali, ze je to chyba v RCS v telefonu a mam si to nastavit. Sranda je ta, ze pokud mi dojde do SMS URL na share.vodafona.com/..... tak ani to nejde zobrazit v prohlizeci, pokud jsem na mobilnich datech. Hlasi to chybu DNS. Coz jasne prokazuje, ze nemam chybne nastavenou RCS! Nehlede na to, ze pokud se pripojim na wifi, tak se to odesle hned/zobrazi hned ... Testoval jsem to nekolikrat, resil nekolikrat a ani po cca roce bez uspechu to s nekym u vodafone resit ... .

hapi To chodi klasickou sms, ono se to samo prepina, podle toho, zda protistrana to podporuje. Nenasel jsem jak si to zvolit napevno atd. Spis je to nejaka automaticka. Ty URL jsou, kdyz nekomu posilam foto, tak jemu dojde SMS ve ktere je URL do cloudu vodafone. A to s nima resim.

hapi tak teď je jasné co všechno je svázané s tou blitkou jménem FB... je na čase se oprostit tak jako se musí evropa oprostit od závislosti na číně...

jen pro informaci, me se snizil prutok dat o cca 20% presne po 18h, takze vypadek FB . Pak to zas rostlo, jak lidi koukali jinam.

Třeba skylink šel do kopru, od 20:20 do 21:20 šla odezva na jejich servery z 15ms až na 70ms. Asi se hodně lidí dívalo na bednu, když nešly ty ksichtbooky...

a už to fičí
